THE IMAPCT OF MODERN PRODUCTION OF DENIUM JEANS ON INDIAN COMMUNITIES AND THE ENVIRONMENT

The society we live in creates waste every day. I have learnt that the textile industry is one of the most polluting aspects of the global fashion industry, devastating the environment and posing health hazards to human. For this project, I looked into the production of jeans and how they are affecting local communities. I used recycled jeans and manipulated them within my weaves, adding depth and dimension. I also intertwined a message to communicate sustainability, that the majority of the population are unaware of. I focused on creating a collection in conjunction with Khadi London who help ‘embody female empowerment and independence’ giving communities in India a purpose to create beautiful hand spun sustainable fabrics that, unlike the current production of jeans, benefit the environment, creating sustainable fashion.
